Fuel Pellet FAQ

What is pellet fuel?

Pellet fuel is a renewable, clean-burning and cost stable home heating alternative. There are approximately 800,000 homes in the U.S. using wood pellets for heat, in freestanding stoves, fireplace inserts and even furnaces.

Can you help me get a Pellet Stove to burn Rockwood Pellets?

Yes just contact us by email or phone - we sell stoves locally in west central Gerogia through Thomaston Hardware and we have afflilated Rockwood Pellet dealers we can refer you to throughoutout the south for stove and fireplace sales.

What is it made of?

Pellet fuel is a biomass product made of renewable substances – but this means 100% hardwoods for Rockwood products. Wood chips and saw dust from manufacturing operations are diverted from the waste stream and landfills.  Rockwood does not use Pine or other lower grade wood wastes -- we ONLY USE HARDWOOD for our Premium grade wood pellets.

How do I burn pellet fuel?

Pellet fuel for home heating can be burned in a freestanding pellet stove, fireplace insert or a furnace. A pellet stove looks much like a wood stove, but is automated. Heating a home with pellet fuel requires only the ability to add pellets into a hopper, set the desired heat output and provide necessary appliance maintenance, such as cleaning out an ash pan. All other aspects of the heating process occur automatically. Pellet stoves and fireplace inserts come in a wide range of styles, sizes and finishes.

What are the environmental benefits of heating with pellet fuel?

Pellet fuel is carbon neutral and prevents the risks of global warming. Pellet fuel also has a 99% combustion efficiency. This translates into less ash produced. What little ash is left behind (less than 1% with premium pellets) can be used as fertilizer.

Where are your fuel pellets manufactured?

All of our wood pellets are manufactured in West Central Georgia at our mill in the town called “The Rock” just outside Thomaston Ga.  Our mill uses state of the art machines to press wood waste like hardwood saw dust a dye. This extrusion process puts the wood waste materials under high pressure and some natural heat from the friction of the dye to make our high grade wood pellets.

Can wood pellets be used for animal bedding?

Yes. Wood pellets are also the perfect replacement to sawdust or straw in barns and kennels. The low moisture content of the wood fiber allows the pellets to absorb up to three times their weight in odor-causing liquid. You and your pet will love wood pellets because they are made of all natural wood fiber with no additives so they are completely safe. They have a pleasant scent without all of the dust and mess of wood chips or sawdust. They are easy to use, and economical too .
